First Update from Koblenz, Germany

Hello :)

First of all, sorry for not writing enough. A lot happened in past months, and I’ve been very busy.

Initially I was planning to write a “First Month in Germany” post, but life was stressful and I didn’t want to push it. Blogging feel weird when I force myself into it.

TLDR is, things are mostly great, and I’m looking forward :^)

I arrived Germany at 10th of October. Had a bit stressful flight because of the interval at the transit country, and when I arrived to Frankfurt, it turned out that my baggage got lost :D. Imagine, first ever flight, and the your baggage gets lost. To be honest, I wasn’t that stressed. I had good savings and a working cell phone. Which means I could just get started from scratch!

Fortunately, they found my baggage two days later, and it got delivered to my doorstep too ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Ah, let me thank all the amazing people (and those who don’t have an online presence) for their support in those stressful days. <3

The next day, I went to university for the enrollment, and got to know a great guy, who shortly after became a new nice friend1. He is great.

Then, I faced the reality about the rent situation. Initially I was thinking like “okay, let’s see how this week goes, then I’ll easily find an apartment and move in”. Well, finding apartment took a solid one month; but hey, I absolutely cannot complain. Now I’m staying at a very central place, the apartment (a single room) is quite nice and cozy. I have two massive windows (around 1m x 1.5m) which I absolutely love! The street I’m looking at - being a main street - is decorated for Christmas, and it is beautiful in the evening.

The first day I moved in my new apartment, I realized that there is literally nothing in it. I mean, there was some furniture, but that is all. No kitchenware, no duvet or linen, nothing. But I managed to set up my laptop, and started the work day in an empty room that looks like the memes.

After the work, I had to visit Ikea to get some basic needs. A small Ikea adventure later, I managed to get the necessary stuff to skip the night - pillow, duvet, and etc. I also did a second Ikea trip later that week to buy the kitchenware.

Having my biggest problem fixed, it was time for the infamous paperwork that everyone have been warning me about. More on this in the footnote2.

So, here I am. This was the beginning of my relocation process.

How do I feel?

I mostly feel lonely. Lately I find myself writing a lot to our group chat and waiting for the answers, I feel like I might be boring my friends too, and I’m becoming more demanding by asking for game nights frequently.

Being not that socially active person doesn’t help either. And yes, working remotely is no good as well. But hey, looking forward to “Friends for Dinner” program. Sounds real fun.

Btw, I have also lost interest in single player games. I start playing them, to lose interest in an hour. For some reason, they all feel pointless. Look at all the installed games. I only enjoy Sea of Thieves and Left4Dead2 among them, both being multiplayer games.

Sorted by my interest to them, from most to least enjoyable

Surviving wasn’t the easiest too. In the beginning I had troubles getting groceries. Just wasn’t able to find products in the shelves, lol. Then, I had a cash issue. I wasn’t able to get any cash, and as the result, I was not able to do my laundry 3 โ€‹๐Ÿ˜‚โ€‹.

But now, as I am writing this post, things have turned out nicely. I have some clothes arriving in two days, and a teapot that matches my cups! The paperwork is done too. Only barrier I haven’t passed yet is visiting a barber, which is sad. Even my coworkers started noticing my hair.

The city

Koblenz is beautiful. It is rather small, but has a personality. The confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers is in Koblenz, and the scenery is incredible.

Recently the have decorated the main parts of the city for Christmas, which made the city like a place from novels. I am loving it.

I have taken this photo, and I’m proud of it :)

Anyways, I also have a new vinyl record hobby, which I’ll hopefully write another post about. I’d write here, but I am too sleepy right now.

See you <3

P.S. I’m working on solving the SSL issue with the images. Please bear with me.

  1. A month later, turned out we share the same birthday! What a coincidence :D. ↩︎

  2. And to be honest, it was quite straightforward. Asked for a document from landlord via email, which I received the PDF in 15 minutes, then took an appointment at Town Hall via website, went there and in 10 minutes, I had my city registration done. Next week I got a mail (a physical one :D) with my new tax ID and everything. With all these, I opened my bank account, and that is all. Honestly, I don’t know why people complain this much! ↩︎

  3. Luckily, I had brought enough underwear with me ๐Ÿ˜ถ. ↩︎
